Sir Harold Dudley Clayton

20th May 2024

One of the central elements of our next catalogue ‘Britain on the High Seas: Heroic Endeavour’ is the substantial and fascinating archive of Sir Harold Dudley Clayton, Bart. This includes the lifeboat model of the ‘City of Glasgow’ (see the historic photograph above), over 100 yacht designs and naval architects’ drawings, photograph albums, photographic glass slides and a model of the yacht Coquette. It provides a unique snapshot into the huge enthusiasm for pleasure craft, the workings of a shipyard and life in Penarth at the close of the Victorian era.
