– Wick Antiques buys the full range of furniture. Not only in mahogany, rosewood and satinwood but also in glass, metal and a large quantity of leather upholstery. From furniture for a traditional gentleman’s study (see the ‘collections’ tab in the index menu) to delicate painted furniture for the boudoir, we can accommodate a range of tastes. For example we currently have some black glass and ormolu coffee tables jostling for position with high Victorian marquetry console tables, lacquer cabinets, Italian carved walnut jardinières 4 foot high and a huge red Orientalist partner’s desk. Charlie’s particular favourites are classical, superb quality pieces from Gillows of Lancaster and London – so we have a sizeable offering of drawing, dining and bedroom furniture from these famous workshops.
A mid-Victorian gilt-wood console table, of rectangular form, the frieze with vitruvian scrolls centred on a classical female mask wearing a feathered and tasselled headdress flanked by scrolls and foliage, raised upon cabriole legs with acanthus carved shoulders and hairy paw feet, with breche violette marble top. English, c1850.
