Charles Wallrock, a prominent antique dealer, recently identified a historic painting depicting a tragic 1861 RNLI rescue attempt off Scarborough. The artwork, previously misidentified as a scene from Italy or Devon, shows the lifeboat Amelia’s doomed maiden voyage. Wallrock’s research has proven the painting’s true origins, enhancing its historical significance.
Wallrock, who runs Wick Antiques, has included this Turner-esque watercolour in his new book, Britain on the High Seas – Heroic Endeavour, focusing on maritime rescues. A portion of the book’s proceeds will benefit the RNLI.
