Rescuing Maritime Heritage: Charles Wallrock’s Remarkable Find

Renowned antique dealer, Charles Wallrock, recently made a significant discovery: a dramatic painting depicting the 1861 RNLI rescue attempt off Scarborough, initially misidentified as a scene from Torquay or Italy. Wallrock’s research revealed its true historical context, showcasing the maiden voyage of the lifeboat Amelia.

This Turner-esque watercolour is featured in Wallrock’s new book, Britain on the High Seas – Heroic Endeavour, which highlights maritime rescues. Part of the book’s proceeds will benefit the RNLI.
