A ‘Black Forest’ carved linden wood model of a mount rescue dog, naturalistically modelled standing four-square with a barrel at his collar and a blanket wrapped around his middle, on an oval base carved with rocks and grasses. Swiss, circa 1890.
Footnote: Arenski, Daniels and Daniels, in their publication ‘Swiss Carvings, The Art of the ‘Black Forest’ 1820-1940’ Woodbridge 2005; illustrate many mountain rescue dogs but there are only two with barrels and blankets, like this example, as shown on a clock, p 153 pl 255.
