A fine George III figured mahogany serpentine commode attributed to Henry Hill of Marlborough, the serpentine top with a moulded edge above shaped sides and three graduated serpentine drawers fitted with the original gilt brass handles, bordered by shaped outstanding box-strung front edge corners, the shaped apron with out-swept feet.

Footnote: Henry Hill of Marlborough was active from 1740 until 1778. He established himself not only as a cabinetmaker, but also a coach-maker, an auctioneer, an estate agent and an insurance company representative. His patrons included the Duke of Somerset at Maiden Bradley, the Earl of Radnor at Longford Castle and Lord Methuen at Corsham Court, Wiltshire.
