A pair of very generous mahogany wing armchairs attributed to Whytock and Reid, Edinburgh, each with a curved back and wings above out swept arms and a shaped seat rail, set on cabriole legs with pointed-toe feet, reupholstered in distressed blue leather. Scottish, circa 1920
Whytock and Reid (1807-2004), leading high-quality furniture manufacturers in Edinburgh, furnished the great and even royal houses and castles of Scotland, often working in partnership with the architect Robert Lorimer. They were one of only two companies in the world to hold a Royal Charter continuously for over 150 years.
