A large Regency rosewood breakfront side cabinet/open bookcase, attributed to Gillows, of long rectangular form with two central glazed cupboard doors flanked by open bookcases, each enclosing two adjustable shelves, retaining the original brass gallery to the top and trellis-and-rosette grilles to the doors, the uprights surmounted by corbels, all set upon fluted melon feet. English, circa 1815.
Footnote: The attached drawing from ‘The Cabinetmaker’s General Sketch Book’, circa 1820 shows a very similar piece with a raised gallery.
