A rare Safavid lustre ware vase with a globular body, flared rim, handle and tapering conical spout, decorated throughout in chocolate lustre with naive animals on a foliate ground. With paper labels for the H. Kevorkian Collection Item 1075 and the New York Persian Exhibition 1940, Kashan, 17th century. Some old restoration to the rim.
Provenance: Hagop Kevorkian (1872-1962) was an archaeologist, collector and connoisseur of Middle Eastern art. He excavated at Sultanabad and Rayy in Iran and founded the Kevorkian Foundation in 1951. At his death the Kevorkian Collection was arguably the last comprehensive collection of first class paintings and works of art to come onto the market.
