Antique Screens were primarily to divide large rooms, curtail draughts, hide service doors and protect a lady’s complexion from the heat of the fire. With three or four panels they were also highly visible and needed to be decorated with great skill. Sometimes marquetry and parquetry veneers were employed, others were painted and fire screens often featured embroidered panels.
